Joint Statement by the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration on the U.S. Proposal to Identify the Use of 5G Mobile Services in the 3300-3400 MHz Band in the Americas Region
The U.S. Department of State, on behalf of the U.S. Government, is submitting a proposal to the May 2023 Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) held in Mexico City, Mexico, which calls for opening the 3300-3400 MHz band for 5G mobile services within the Americas Region. If accepted as a regional proposal, CITEL would submit to the November 2023 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-23) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This report provides a snapshot of the considerable efforts of NTIA, the Federal Communications Commission and other federal agency partners to repurpose radio frequency spectrum – either on an exclusive or shared use basis – to support commercial wireless services and applications such as 5G wireless connectivity. It highlights spectrum-related activities through the end of 2021.
